New FurBaby

I realized I forgot to post about our new FurBaby!

Meet Eli-Princess. She was a rescue from North Carolina. After hours of research, I believe she is an American Foxhound. She is adjusting well to us and the other animals. My daughter named her after Eli Manning, the quarterback for the NY Giants. I haven't had the chance to upload…

My story of loss and triumph

I am a 68 year old grandmother and great grandmother, happily married for 47 years and enjoying reasonably good health. This is my story of loss and triumph. It is time to write it, to sort it through my mind and put it down in black and white. To make it real.  When things happen in my life, good or bad, it is often my way to put my experiences into writing. Doesn't matter if I share it or anyone else sees it. Writing  helps me to understand and to assimilate my life. This story has…

The Day I Learned I Had Enough

I shared this on my blog but I thought there were probably be some of you who may share in this experience.

I (too often) can feel like we don’t have enough money. We have debt and as anyone who has debt knows, it is almost impossible to dig out from under it. It feels like all of the extra money goes to pay down the debt and the next thing I know, something happens and the cards are all filled up again. It is frustrating and stressful and at times I allow it to get the best…

A New Resolution: Breaking The Cycle

nina_cherie_franklin_resolution

Each year people resolve to initiate an exercise training program for weight loss purposes. Unfortunately, they assume that after a year (or even years) of physical inactivity, they can pick up where they left off at age 18. Many assume that they can just jump on a treadmill every day, run all out for 2 hours, and lose all of their weight by…

Re-Kindling the Flame

Most of us had a dream growing up. It might have been to travel the world. It might have been to sing in front of thousands of people. It might have been to climb Mt. Everest. Whatever it was, it provided drive and inspiration. A vector, if you will.

Well, if you are anything like me, the dream did not develop as imagined. Life provided a different path. Rather than becoming a great actress of the stage, I became a SAHM and military wife. I am very blessed in this life but it…

The 411 on the "secret drink list" for Starbucks.

Today I was in Starbuck's and heard someone order a drink I had never heard of "A Cinnamon Roll Frappuccino".  I took a step back and looked up at the menu trying to figure out where this delicious drink could be found, but it wasn't on the…

To Resolve or Not to Resolve

Every year, I come to the imaginary line between December and January with a lot of baggage, Starting about the 26th or 27th, I would begin a 20 page opus of all the things I would do better come January 1st.  You know how it goes...

  • I would finally learn French
  • I would stop yelling
  • My closet would not become a "stuff" spot
  • I would exercise everyday
  • Etc, etc. etc...

Have you made a list like that? I suspect at least a few of…

A Cold Blast From the Past

Earlier this month, I spent a weekend at my parents. This may not sound inherently stressful but I used the weekend to clean out years of stuff remaining afters years of moves and relocations. I had a large garage sale (and by large, I mean lots of effort, not lots of money made) and began sorting through boxes of old papers.

I found a "newspaper" I started while staying at my grandparent's beach house which was pretty humorous. It seems that the weather was mild, the fashion was…

I’m Approaching 40 and Getting Belly Fat: What’s Up With That?

Belly Fat in Women Over 40

(Originally posted on NinaCheriePhD.com)

During every lecture, seminar and workshop I’ve ever given for women at least one raises her hand to ask about belly fat. The typical conversation flows as follows:

Woman: “How do I get rid of this?” (While pointing to her midsection)

Me: “With…

Forget Me Nots

This weekend is our opportunity to show those who have served that we care. In the front of store, you may see men and women wearing blue vests offering you a little blue flower. Much like the Salvation Army Santa, it is easy to look down and rush in, eager to get your errands. Please don't, because that little blue flower means more than you may know.…
