I am in search of others views....At this point, I don't have a contribution to make but want to compliment you on the question. I have a 'want' in my life and questioning if it's meant to be. Is it as heart-breaking to others as it is to me, to try to discover how we know? I am very anxious to see how others respond!

Permalink Reply by Sonia on May 5, 2012 at 8:44pm I think dreams can be a mixture of both depending on how you look at it. Dreams can be unrealistic and unattainable if strive for things out of reach. The key is to plan out your journey and make a mental decision to take it day by day. Where some give up is when our dreams don't materialize overnight. Dreams give us life, something to look forward to and passion. That's the positive part about dreams....determination, focus and drive....

In my personal opinion we all have things that we are meant to do in our lifetime, there are different seasons and different callings. I think that your dreams are the calling. Why else would you have the dream? As far as knowing when it's your purpose...You know when you are doing it because you feel like a duck in water...there's a peace that happens. That doesn't mean that it's always going to be easy or that there won't be difficulty or bumps in the road...but you know you are in your element.
I don't know if that helps. A sometimes these dreams are a season. Maybe it was something you needed to accomplish, it was for personal growth, but there is always something to be learned in it.
What do you think?
Permalink Reply by Nicole Moulton on May 6, 2012 at 1:06pm Would you be willing to open up what you are milling over? We are here as your sisters to support you. I can tell there is something on your mind. If you are facing a hurdle, maybe you just need some new eyes to help you over it. Sometimes what looks like the end of a dream is just your self doubt hurting you. I only ask, because I've been there, done that, and just needed to trust that God puts people in your life also to help you get back in your A game with your dream.

I agree. And that brings a whole new layer to my question!: "smetimes these dreams are a season"....its like not only do you wonder if what you are passionate about can be your career or job, but you wonder if the answer is yes...but only for a season. Awesome take on this. Wow. Sigh :-)
Permalink Reply by Diane Corriette on May 8, 2012 at 3:47am My opinion of it all is being connected to our inner voice. Its a guidance system that exists to help us decide things like this. Is it our passion? Our purpose? Should we be going for it or not? It took me a long time to finally feel settled and as if I was doing what I was always meant to do. I went off on different things thinking there was something better but it always called me back. Its a little like if you have a real passion for music. Maybe at 25 you decide its time to settle down and get a job but your passion for music never leaves you. It calls you back even if it is to express yourself at home, or in small venues.
I worked with a woman once who was ineffective at work. How did I help her turn her work around within weeks so that her bosses were totally impressed? I helped her connect to the fact that her passion is acting. She wanted to act and she had given it up to 'get a proper job' - once she went back to expressing her passion everything at work was so much better for her and that reflected in her effectiveness. Eventually she left and now she acts in theatre while working part time.
The thing to consider (and again just my opinion) is what 'pulls' you - what do you love to do. That old over used question that says "what would you do if you won the lottery tomorrow and you didn't have to work, what would you do anyway?" - that can help anyone start to bring out a real desire.
When you are doing what you love to do, when you are walking your Divine path, you will know. I know that doesn't help and the question is HOW will I know. The only answer I know to give is - that is something only you will know! The more you learn to trust yourself the more likely it is that it will happen.
At some point you can mentally decide "okay, this is it. I choose this. I love to do it and I will focus on it" and that can help. But ultimately, knowing and using your inner voice. Learning to trust it to guide you (and that inner voice can be called God, Divine, Universe) will help anyone figure out whether their desire truly is a desire or something they think they should be doing.
Meditation helps a lot. Or at least deep breathing if meditation isn't your thing. Just being silent and open to hearing what's next, or whether something is for you or not will bring answers. I can't say when the answers will come and to some extent that needs to be let go off. Just trusting that when you ask, and breathe, silence your mind and trust. Answers do come.
I went through all of that myself so I appreciate the frustration. You are in the right space though because if you are asking then you will be taken on a journey to find the answer as long as you remain open to that happening.
Permalink Reply by Sherry Pringle on May 11, 2012 at 5:50pm Rhonda I was thinking about this same question today and was lead to your post. To me this validates what I hear Diane saying about being open to the journey and trusting yourself. I have to trust that if I am asking the Universe and searching the Universe for the best way that I can serve the Universe with my unique set of talent/skills that the Universe will lead me down that path. So I think that a dream is placed into our heart by the Universe and it's energy is what gives us the fuel to keep going for it. That dream for some maybe the same from day one but for others that dream may transform with our personal growth. When we know or how we know that it's our purpose is when we no longer have to ask ourselves that question. You just know it and feel it. Just like love.
Permalink Reply by Sherry Pringle on May 11, 2012 at 6:09pm You have to trust what is in your heart and let the Universe guide you. Trust it and don't doubt it. Know that it is your purpose because it's in your heart and you hear it speaking to you. Don't ignore it or let fear keep you from going for it. Know that the Universe will make away for it if it's meant to be what you want it to be and it will make away for something else if it is not meant to be what you wanted it to be. Trust that the Universe will align what you want with your true purpose!
